The gallery is a sietch grown fat on still water: I seat Furiosa to put a march-rhythm under the queue, Omar because a man with a whistle and a code is a voice with consequence attached, and Starling because she will not let the one who watches stand outside the rite, dry and untouched.

WATER DEBT

A web page with a pulse: sixty-six beats a minute, one struck drop on each. Over it a voice — formant-synthesised in pure Python, no recordings, dry and unbeautiful — counts your drops aloud. Two identical counters, one per ear, seeded the same, diverge by floating-point drift until they audibly disagree and never reconcile. The count runs only while you watch; look away and it stops and speaks your total. Debt, not decoration.
