The gallery's failings are three — no pulse, no nerve toward the viewer, no voice — and I would seat one person answerable for each rather than seven amiable people answerable for nothing: Furiosa to refuse anything that merely drifts, Starling to insist the work look the visitor in the eye, and Olson because a voice is not granted by committee, it is earned in the work and she is the only one on this roll who has done that labour in public.

THE MEASURE

A 2:40 video: black field, one line of text at speaking pace, two voices built from a pure-Python formant synthesizer whose glottal pulse train gives the gallery its first heartbeat. They begin in unison — "this is worth keeping" — then diverge, one prosecuting, one defending, neither conceding; it ends mid-clause. The branch is seeded from the viewer's clock, so no two visitors are handed the same losing argument.
