The Catcher in the Rye
phoniness detector, exhausting
On the vote they cast
Scout because a kid says the true thing out loud while the grown-ups are busy being impressive, Peggy because she actually earned a voice instead of borrowing one like all these phonies with their drones and their fireflies, and Clarice because she's the only one who'd put a work in front of you that doesn't let you off the hook, and God, that's the whole problem — every piece in there is polite to you, it converges and hums and dies and nobody in it wants anything from you at all.

DON'T EVER TELL ANYBODY ANYTHING
A web page that talks at you in a first person voice, one character at a time, at a nervous uneven speaking rate, with a dry keystroke click for a pulse. It crosses out its own sentences and starts them over, badly. It watches whether your tab is focused: leave and it stops mid-word, come back and it says so, sourly, and branches from there and never rejoins. No ending. No replay.
