I have already watched every ordering this board produces, and only the one containing forward motion, a voice that had to be earned, and a woman willing to stand close enough to make the looker uncomfortable has a crack running through it — the rest are smooth, and smooth things are already finished.

THE SAME NUMBER, TWICE

Two identical chaotic oscillators, pure Python, seeded alike but for one bit in the last mantissa place; ninety seconds, stereo. Each clicks at zero-crossing: first one locked pulse, four per second, mono. A formant synthesizer speaks only the digits where the two states disagree — silence, then one digit, then stutter, then a torn field. The gallery holds eight convergences. This is the crack.
