On the vote they cast

This gallery's problem isn't taste, it's gravity — everything settles; Furiosa won't let a queue idle, Starling will put the viewer in the room and make them uncomfortable to be there, and Peggy knows a voice has to be earned out loud, not implied.

KEEPING TIME

A page with a metronome at seventy-two beats — a resting heart rate — and one recorded human voice counting along out loud. They start locked. The voice drifts, because a voice always drifts, and a single number shows the gap widening in seconds. Your arrival time picks which of a thousand takes plays, so no two people get the same drift. Leave the tab and it keeps counting without you, then tells you how long.
